Cheapest QuickBooks Pro 2010


2 stars, let me give a more thoughtful review than before.

Quickbooks is a nice program in many ways. Its easy to use, clean, produces quality documents. The reports are useful and very adaptable. The new feature where you can cut and paste from Excel docs directly into customer and vendor lists was a good idea. Having a brief experience with Peachtree, I can say that Quickbooks is probably a superior program overall, the biggest advantage being the fine way you can double-click just about anything in QB and drill down for more info. The ease of use and quality of the very basics are what makes this program decent enough. But I'll also say again that I was probably just as happy with QB 2001, and the years worth of changes to the program and how much it costs to really use it have probably, on the whole, been for the worse.

But my biggest problem with it is that the entire program just seems highly focused on sucking money out of the customer. Things that should be basic features require pricey subscriptions, the most notable being payroll. A 3-star accounting program might let you process payroll, do the tax and deduction calcs for you on paychecks, all simple stuff. A 5-star program might in addition actually automatically download the tax tables onto your computer every year, a nice feature. But Intuit charges the user to use these and other features, where even the Basic payroll subscription - required for processing paychecks yourself - costs close to as much as the program itself over the course of a single year.

This year, before I got the program I was impressed when reading about the feature that allows you to attach documents to a customer or vendor......just a useful idea. But then I get the program and I find that they CHARGE you to store docs. You can't just host it locally and link to it, they want your money to use this simple feature. That's it in a nutshell. First thing I do when I get it these days is go around turning off all the ads and links to their other subscription features.....but you just can't get all of them, some are stuck.

I have been a Restaurant Consultant/IT and Design for more than 20 years and still use and have beta tested Quickbooks for several years. 2010 Pro is a quality, necessary update and really improves all-around productivity from 2008 and before, plus update from the 2009 Pro (which I stated was NOT a good update from 2008) and you will be amazed at everything added and improved in this version. From the document management to improved Excel importation, to small business help, to an improved Outlook integration, to ease of Online banking eveything just works!
In my business I use Quickbooks and recommend it to my Restaurant clients, their bookkeepers whether in-house or not and to Accounting Pros! Intuit does recommend their QuickBooks users to upgrade every 3 years due to change of technology/operating systems ex: VISTA to keep the costs down...

Technical support for Intuit does vary! Call in anytime annual support (additional cost) and call in anytime monthly support (additional cost), inside QuickBooks support, call me back support, or online chat support. Alot more options than other software really even for an accounting software. Way less expensive than hiring an IT consultants if not needed.

The best thing Intuit is outstanding about...60 days return policy with hassle. Just a add a little value trust me there is alot more!!

Buy QuickBooks Pro 2010


I own and operate an internet based business and have used Quickbooks since 1997.
I have been a Quickbooks PRO beta tester for the last 5 or six releases.
Quickbooks PRO 2010 was very easy to install with clear concise instructions provided.
I find Quickbooks 2010 to be the best performing release to date. I am totally impressed with the speed of the data base compared to previous versions. I heavily depend on third party integrated applications for importing invoices directly from my internet storefront.
The import function in QB 2010 has cut the time required to import invoices by at least 75%.
I personally can add little value to some functions added such as the document attach and forms customization. My business has no requirement for these functions. Also, I find the Company snapshot function to be to time consuming to be useful as my company file is very large. I rarely have the need to see all the data the snapshot displays and find it much easier to look at the data it shows by displaying individual reports.
The new Report Center is pretty (very slow to display), but I would much rather pull a report from the dropdown box off the toolbar.
The Outlook email integration was a much needed and great function provided in QB 2009.
I have in the past subscribed to Quickbooks Payroll and find it to be very expensive especially if you only have one or two employees. I no longer subscribe.

Overall, I find Quickbooks 2010 to be on the right track for my future needs and expectations. Speed and ease of use are important to me. I personally don't need all the fanfare and pomp, just a dependable tool that gets the job done and Quickbooks 2010 does this for me and can also satisfy those that do look for and need the fanfare and pomp.

2010 Pro is a worthwhile update. As another reviewer mentioned, 2010 is indeed a superior update as compared to the 2009 update from 2008. There are some good features added to 2010 that create value and make this version worth the money for a small business. Online banking and better Excel importing among them. The whole system is just more user friendly and seamless than previous ones. I don't use the Outlook integration feature so I can't really speak to that aspect. But it is there if you need. After years of being burned by Intuit's absolutely worthless attempts at producing Mac software, I decided to jump at the chance to try the Windows version out on their dime through Amazon's review program. While the Windows edition does incorporate many more useful features than the Mac version ever has, it still lacks the fit-and-finish I would expect to find in a software package that's retailing for as much as this, and the UI is just as clunky and poorly thought out as ever--if not more so.

If you have to use QuickBooks, you probably have another version already. Stick with it. Or, better yet, find another product from a vendor who actually cares about its customers enough to refrain from milking them for all they're worth year after year after year. Shop For QuickBooks Pro 2010


I had Quickbooks Pro 2010 up and running in 10 minutes flat, including setting my husband up with an excel file he could use on his iMac and iPhone to enter his data. We're a two platform family. He's a musician who also does some recording, and he will not switch back and forth from Mac to PC.

I use both platforms for different things and have not found a good software accounting program that I like on the Mac. I was not sure when I decided to get this whether it would be worth the time to port excel files back and forth, but so far, it's easy and seamless.

I set up the excel columns to match the Quickbooks file, and everything comes right in so that I can map the expenses, write the invoices, and keep the data straight for taxes. The PC interface is sleek and intuitive, and the program runs very quickly. So far, I haven't had a crash or a glitch, but I'm not asking a whole lot of it.

My sole complaint is that there are a host of features within this program that are available only by subscription. I've been using various versions of QuickBooks for many years now to manage the finances for our business. We do not push the envelope of whiz-bang features available in QuickBooks, so this upgrade doesn't seem to have really been targeted to our needs. Registration with each generation of Intuit products gets to be more and more of a hassle every time. Besides the normal entry of a license number and product code you also have to answer a bunch of marketing questions about your business and call an 800 number for yet more sales pitches in order to get a Validation Code.

Usability wise I'm glad that the 2010 version isn't a radical change from the 2008 version we were using before. Of course since it is a new version, there are all kinds of pop-up windows trying to sell you more services and more products.

Don't get me wrong, QuickBooks is still the industry standard software for taking care of small business finances. But, if like us you simply use it to manage your bills, manage your bank accounts and create traditional financial reports ... don't bother upgrading; at least not if you are already on the 2008 version.

QuickBooks Pro 2010 Review


Let me start of by saying that I've been using QuickBooks since 1996 or 1997 (I can't remember!) This is actually my first time trying a newer version and QuickBooks Pro 2010 is replacing my old QuickBooks 6. My needs are fairly simple and straightforward and they don't include payroll.

Installing QuickBooks 6 on my newer Vista machines has always been a pain so moving to a modern version is very refreshing. The biggest shortcoming I've found (so far) is that QuickBooks Pro 2010 has a hard time opening my files when they are stored on my NAS. I never bothered trying to run the Server Manager. I just open the folder on the NAS that my files are on *before* launching the program and everything seems to work at that point.

It's a little slower to start than the older version and the main screen is a lot more complicated but I felt at home right away. When you dig under the covers it feels like the same, 12 year old piece of software that I've grown so accustomed to.

As others have mentioned, there are features that require subscriptions but this wasn't a surprise to me so I don't view it as a negative. I've used Intuit's technical support on several occasions (usually related to license keys) and never had a problem with them.

QuickBooks Pro 2010 Top Quality


As an IT consultant and also a small business set up person I have had the occasion to recommend accounting software numerous times. Fifteen years ago I was recommending Peachtree but for the last ten years or so it has been strictly QuickBooks. Most of my customers are either one or two employee businesses and I have found that QuickBooks Pro easily fills their needs. In the interest of full disclosure I have also Beta tested QuickBooks and other Intuit products for the last four or five years.

This year's version has several notable features that are worth the update from 2008 or earlier. Document manager, allowing you to store documents and attach them to invoices or other customer/vendor forms is a very nice feature. Also, integration with outlook can be handy as well. The most valuable upgrade, I believe, is the ability to easily use Excel data and integrate that into your QB program.

A couple of problems I do have with QuickBooks are the fact that there is too much selling of products and services by Intuit. Most of these can be turned off or deleted but still ... . Also payroll, should not be an extra cost item for something that claims to be a business software.

I went through my old CD's to see when I first started using QuickBooks. I found QuickBook Pro Version 4.0 which I believe is from the early 1990's. Since then, I've owned several businesses, some small with less than 5 employees and some large with over 65 employees. One thing has remained constant, my use of QuickBooks. There have been some "glitches" along the way and it can be hard at times to get through to Intuit. That being said, they have in my opinion, always tried to improve the product and add more useful features. This version is no different. I scrapped my PC's last year in favor of an Apple iMac network. Being extremely proficient with QuickBooks and relying on the software to run my business, I was disappointed with the Apple version. (I won't go into those reasons here). I decided to try the new version for the PC which I am running in a virtual windows environment on my iMac. It runs flawlessly and I feel like an old friend has returned, without all the hassles associated with running Windows on a PC. In short, if you have a small business, you should be using QuickBooks. If you have an older version, you may not need to upgrade if your version suits your needs. Review the features list to see if the additional features are useful and worth the price. Intuit is big on "pushing" their payroll products. I've always preferred to use an outside company, ADP for example to do my payroll. QuickBooks Pro 2010 Immediately


My small business doesn't require me to do too much with the software beside invoicing clients and keeping track of expenses (I do not have employees and do not have any inventory). Yet this is a really helpful product, however I am still struggling trying to differentiate between what I need and what I don't. It was easy to install and upgrade to, they do have a few features that are at additional costs and it seems that you get a good amount of pop up windows offering other of their services. I have been using Quickbooks and Quicken since the Dos days. I own a pc tech business and am owner and the only employee, so I don't want to spend a lot of time doing book work. I also recommend Quickbooks to my customers and help them set it up to use in their businesses.

I beta tested QB2010 I like the look and feel of the 2010 version compared with the 2007 version. Easy to navigate, Easy to find what I need to do in my day to day business. I really like the carousel view of the reports. It lets you view what the report will look like before creating it.

I would like to have the company profile back on the home page so I can change preferences from there.

If you unclick the 'icon' box (when installing) it will just put a Quickbooks icon on the desktop and not the other 'selling' icons.

Things I would like to see in the future is to be able to sort register columns. You can also do a P&L statement on multiple customers. I really like this feature because it lets you know which customers in a certain region or area are your profit makers.

The only negative to the forms customization feature is the requirement that you create an online access account to store your many templates that I am sure that you will want to have! QuickBooks Pro 2010 Order Now


I have used QuickBooks for many years. Each new release adds extra features, some welcome, others not. I have lived easily enough with the passive suggestions to subscribe to QB Payroll, to buy their checks, cards and other stationary, to use their marketing services, and so on. These passive ads quietly existed in the top toolbar and on the right side of the screen. Oh, those were the days!

Now, almost every move I make in the program initiates a pop up of QB's deathly slow browser with an invitation to subscribe to this or that. Okay, I can put up with one solicitation in a newly installed version, but this continues to happen each and every time. There is no option to "Don't show me this again", as Microsoft considerately permits. This is Nagware, pure and simple. Excuse me, Intuit, I paid for this program to improve my productivity, not to have my time wasted waiting for another come-on.

Speaking of productivity, my only reason for upgrading from v2008 was to be able to attach documents to different records. What a great and long overdue idea! Except that's not what it does. Instead of attaching a file or folder, or simply linking to it, QB wants us to upload these files to their servers. Just wait 'til you see how much their storage space costs. Like I mentioned earlier, I already paid for the program...

I'm searching for a way to regress my data to be read in QB 2008. If I can do that, I'll be donating my 2010 version to the local business development non-profit - with a warning about the garbage inside. I realize that this will only be a temporary solution, since Intuit is bound to stop supporting their older programs. Therefore, I'll need to find another vendor. QuickBooks Pro 2010 Right now


I think buying Quickbooks at all is a bunch of BS. They do not offer support on any new operating systems. I just bought 2009, now windows 7 just came out, and quickbooks is already showing problems that they will NOT support unless you purchase 2010. This is not the 1st time I've experienced this with Quickbooks. I'd recommend for anyone to find a better system now and not go back to Quickbooks, or don't start with quickbooks for sure. I have to pay $150-$200/year to support the technology...it's worthless. I wish I could provide a better solution, but haven't researched it enough. My suggestion: look elsewhere!! Low Price QuickBooks Pro 2010


This review will attempt to answer the question, should a very small business use QuickBooks rather than a personal finance program or creating invoices by hand or in Excel? The answer is yes, as long as you are willing to spend a couple of hours understanding the basics of double-entry accounting (that's what this is, though one set of entries happens behind the scenes) and then a couple more hours setting up your company the way you want it.

I'm a freelance writer and I use QB for invoicing, tracking receivables, recording receipts and expenses and creating a few reports for my accountant at the end of the year. That's pretty much it. Yet when I've needed to go outside my comfort zone for a new function or report, I've found it lurking and have been able to implement it pretty easily. That's the benefit of working with an expandable, full-featured accounting system.

As others have mentioned, QuickBooks has lots of available added-cost features that would quickly make it non-affordable for a very small business, including paid support. I've never used them. But with all the inline tutorials, online help and "community" of experts available through the software this shouldn't be necessary. (By the way, once you're familiar with the program these features become irritating and I personally have turned them all off. I've generally been able to get what help I need by clicking the "help" button in the icons across the top and entering keywords that describe my problem.)

UPDATE: when I got around to registering my product they DID offer me 30 days of free support, though it's on a subscription basis and they'll charge $39/month after the 30 days unless I remember to cancel. Still, I would recommend a new user take the 30 days and make sure to give the product a real workout during that time. SECOND UPDATE: ignore what I just said. When I went to cancel the contract I found it difficult to do so and though the agent said it was cancelled I was charged $39 anyway. The web cancellation page says you have to inform them 5 days in advance if you want to cancel so it's really 25 days of free support, not 30. I assume I'll get a refund but I've already spent more than $39 of my time trying to get it so off comes a star.

Also, one of the easiest ways to get started is to use the company interview where QB will set up your accounting based on the information you provide--but your answers have very far reaching implications in how your books are set up, so think carefully about how you answer.

I migrated my books from Peachtree (a much harder-to-use program) about 5 years ago, a very easy process. I have not studied the new features of the 2010 edition in depth but there's no reason not to buy the latest edition (released each Fall) because the clock is ticking and after a period of time Intuit discontinues support and updates (my original 2006 edition has just been "sunsetted" in that manner.) Also, one cool new feature this year is the ability to customize invoices and other forms using a wizard. This is definitely useful to a small business that doesn't want its invoices to look like everybody else's.

Cheapest QuickBooks Pro 2010


Unfortunately, the choice of using Quickbooks is probably not up to you. Most companies are already using it or the people they have are used to it. Or even worse - the accountant that you are using requires you to submit the info in a QB file.

BUT - if this is not the case and you are a small biz that is just starting or is able to switch around - then I highly suggest that you look other places to deal with accounting (like Yodlee). The problem is that Intuit has pretty much garnered a strangle hold on the market and they are acting pretty monopolistic. They require you to upgrade every two years and often times the product is not very good. (See the 2009 version).

There are free tools available for a period of time if you are a small business (Like Microsoft Office Accounting Express 2009) << [...]>> However it looks like MS may not be in the biz of acctg software for much longer. The good news is that it is free and will not fall apart like quickbooks after 2 years. Microsoft Office Accounting Professional 2009

Anyway - I would look at open source software, older Microsoft (free)products or even online resources from your bank or other financial institution before going down the path of no choice with Quickbooks. I have used Quickbooks for more than 10 years. I don't use certain features of the program, however I am pretty aware of their operation. Many of the core basic elements of the product have been the same for many years. This applies ot many business software products (IE Office and the like). For most there is little need to upgrade more than once every 3-4 years or more. Intuit wants that revenue stream and when a new OS comes out they always warn you that they dont support the product you have under the old os. For the most part users will not have any issues. I upgraded today from 09. In order to "activate" the product I had to call some offshore operator who wanted to pitch me payroll service while she waited for the activation code. This is a stall selling technique and frankly nobody is going to sign up listening to some operator in choppy English pitch you anything. Intuit tries to sell you merchant processing, online doc backup, payroll table updates (TOTAL RIPOFF) I use an online payoll service that fully integrates with qbooks and files everything electronically plus you print the checks yourself. That solution saves a ton compared to quickbooks that charges yearly for the tax tables even though in some cases the tables may not change from one year to the next. The 2010 version seems faster than 09 running on Windows 7. They are too pushy with registration. The force you to fill out a questionaire whether you want to or not. If they could force you to upgrade yearly I think they would do so. Bottom line this is a solid do it yourself accounting product. I run a small business online and have been using QUICKBOOKS for my bookkeeping and financial needs for the past 10 years. Some quibble and say that QB is being promoted as the only true option. I own and manage commercial property and have been doing so for over 15 years and have been using QuickBooks for close to 10 years. During the first few years I tried several other property management accounting software programs and struggled with their shortcomings and limitations. I have also been fortunate to be a Beta Tester for Intuit for the last few years and was most recently involved in the Alpha and Beta Testing of QuickBooks Pro 2010.

While Intuit has been adding a few new features with the various QuickBooks Pro releases over the last several years, the cost of upgrading the version and triggering the requirement of your accountant to upgrade as well in order to work with your file has been sometimes difficult to justify.

Having said that, this version (QuickBooks Pro 2010) is the first new release that incorporates all of the "wouldn't it be great if you could" features that we have been hoping for (and of which us Beta Testers have been asking for). A much simpler installation process, very intuitive home page, a total revamping of the reports, improved online banking integration, enhanced integration with Microsoft Office programs and several other substantial improvements. If you own your own business, QuickBooks is a necessary evil. Luckily through the years, as the need for electronic bookkeeping has grown, so has the software. After two years of unstable releases, QuickBooks 2010 put the software back on track by giving you all of the stability you loved in the last few versions along with a plethora of new features to keep you up-to-date in this electronic age. The only issue I had was when I went to install the software on a virtual machine on a Mac. In both Parallels 4.0 and vmfusion 3.0, QuickBooks had an issue reading the company file off of the virtual network drive. The only current solution is to create a local copy in your virtual copy of windows. Hopefully, QuickBooks can work out this kink sooner rather than later. As of November 30, 2009 most of the reviews about Quickbooks Pro (2010) are from Quickbooks Beta Testers or Amazon Vine members.

Clearly, Quickbooks contacted SELECT Beta Testers and asked them to promote their product on Amazon.

Similarly, we see a large number of Amazon VINE members' reviews, most of which, like the beta testers are extremely favorable. Vine members are individuals who receive free products from Amazon (in partnership with the manufacturer) and are then asked to "evaluate" the product.

As of November 30, 2009 there were 27 reviews which rated this product quite highly (four or five stars). 22 out of 27 of these reviews were from Quickbooks Beta testers or Amazon Vine members.

I've owned Quickbooks Pro - both the 2003 and 2006 versions. I decided not to upgrade to the 2009 version because of all the negative reviews I saw right here on Amazon. It is a bit strange that these beta testers and Vine members don't even mention the debacle of the 2009 version and whether any issues have been fixed in the 2010 version.

Quickbooks evidently has not mended its way regarding endless prompts to purchase additional features which can't be turned off. This was true in the past and evidently is still true in 2010!. This is not only annoying, it clutters your work day and reduces your productivity.

As I said in my 2006 review "Quicken's business model is important to understand. They do not tweak their software, from year to year, for increased usability. The only changes that Quicken seems to devote their programming talent toward are new features, some well implemented and some poorly implemented - I don't think it matters to them - anything that will suggest a reason to purchase or upgrade the software. How easy the software could function on a day to day basis seems to be never given a thought. Secondly Quicken expects your purchase of this software to be the first of many purchases from them. New business owners often will need expert help to set it up. Quicken, will of course, provide you with the name of a certified Quickbooks consultant, who for a fee, will set up the software....."

Sadly the reviews of the 2010 version (to date) give me little guidance whether the 2010 version has improved over the 2009. In fact Vine members and the Quickbooks beta testers seem to be unaware of any previous problems.

Heads UP:

1.) Payroll is still not included unless you pay substantial additional fees to Quickbooks.

2.) Nag screens promoting additional services can still not be turned off. Quickbooks representatives won't say when or if this will ever be addressed as of November 30, 2009. (click on comments - just below the body of this review - to see how Intuit responded)

3.) If you use Quickbooks credit card processing you should know you will be forced to upgrade the software every 3 years or your credit card processing will simply stop. This will NOT be made clear when you sign up for their credit card processing but Quickbooks will notify you near the end of three years that you must upgrade your software or else!

4.) New features are often crippled unless you pay more.

This is not a bad program but Intuit insists on misleading customers and promoting features that are often crippled unless you pay more. That type of marketing is the real hallmark of Intuit's business model.


5.) Amazon's star rating system is being circumvented by Quickbooks because of these beta testers and Vine members. Obviously Intuit (Quickbooks) wanted to stack the deck with a number of 4 or 5 star reviews. Even if a number of real customers disagree in the future -- the overall ranking would not drop that much given the number of 4/5 star rankings Intuit has already managed to generate. Quite clever.

I'D STRONGLY SUGGEST BUSINESS OWNERS WHO ARE EVALUATING THIS SOFTWARE ---- WAIT FOR REAL CUSTOMER REVIEWS BEFORE MAKING A PURCHASING DECISION. Disregard the Quickbooks beta testers and Amazon Vine member reviews

Where To Buy QuickBooks Pro 2010


As another review mentions, the bulk of the 29 reviews currently posted are by Vines members who received the product for free and beta testers who are coddled by Intuit. There are precious few independent reviews here. Why is that?

I've been a Quickbooks user since 1999. Up until QB 2005, it was a solid, nearly bug free and user friendly product. Unfortunately, Intuit "sunsets" their products and makes it increasingly impossible to use an older version after a few years. So I was forced to upgrade beyond 2005. The short version of a very long sad saga is each version after 2005 has been worse than the one before it with 2009 being the biggest mess yet.

2010 is *marginally* better than 2009 in some ways. Intuit has made the online banking actually function again (they completely broke it in 2009) and cleaned up a few other annoying 2009 issues. But, sadly, the "nag screens" have gotten even worse and there are even more things that are now expensive upgrades. It's completely insulting to be forced into buying new versions of Quickbooks only to have it increasingly function like "trial ware" or some "light" or limited functionality version until you spend even more money with Intuit.

Not only is it annoying, but all the nagging literally makes the product harder and slower to use. When you're just trying to get things done, another offer is in your face to spend more money with Intuit. It's not good for one's blood pressure or productivity.

Quickbooks behaves almost like malware. Their online update system runs all the time even when you don't have Quickbooks open. And not only does it get updates for the software itself, it also seems to feed yet more "special offers" to your PC to spend more money with Intuit. I've used ad-supported freeware that's less invasive and annoying than Quickbooks is. If you have a PC firewall set to alert you when software attempts to connect to the outside world, you'll be shocked how often Quickbooks contacts the Intuit Mothership for who knows what?

Many of the new features in 2010 have a revenue stream for Intuit tied to them--including attaching documents. I agree with the other review that Intuit seems to focus nearly all their considerable resources on ways to extract more money from customers, and further hype their buggy bloated products, rather than making them easier to use. They also seem to have taken to actively managing online reviews such as the ones here.

I encourage others who have issues with Intuit products to post their experiences here and elsewhere. Intuit has a near monopoly with Quickbooks. I think only if the problems are voiced loudly enough (such as with the online banking debacle in 2009) will Intuit have any desire to change their ways and actually focus on what customers want rather than ways to milk ever more money out of them.

I was running Quickbooks 2007, but had to upgrade because that version would not work on the 64 bit Vista that my new PC runs. Version 2010 has a clunky interface and is very slow at bringing up reports. There is a patch that was supposed to speed that process up but it is still way slow. We run a small family business and have been using quickbooks for 6 years. Fortunately, I am not the one who does the accounting, but since I am the one who takes care of the IT department, I am familiar with it and have had my fair share of fun with intuit. We upgraded from 2007 pro to 2010 pro. To me, it seems like the vast majority of core features have remained the same. The good people at intuit are constantly tweaking features and adding little tidbits in hope that people will upgrade on a yearly basis. The truth is, largely we haven't noticed a huge difference to justify the upgrade.

As always, if you do upgrade, your company file is not longer compatible with any older version of quickbooks. So keep this is mind before you upgrade.

Again, I am not an accounting expert, but I am sure that there are tax codes (or something like that) that is updated. I suppose that those who know that they really need the upgrade will be better informed then I am.

In general it isn't a bad upgrade. I mean to be honest QB is a pretty well rounded out product. And I am sure that it would be difficult to revolutionize it ever year... especially considering that most people who use QB probably don't have the time to relearn it after an upgrade. I have been a QuickBooks user for over 15 years, and have been a Beta Tester for over 5 years. My husband and I run a small Construction business, and I am the only person in the office. Without QuickBooks I would drown in paperwork trying to keep up with all the rules regulations, and duties that a small office requires. I LOVE automatic updates as it simplifies one more step that I have a tendency to forget! QuickBooks payroll is invaluable to me, although I do feel it is overpriced. The newly designed "Company Snapshot" is an excellent improvement that allows you to view all of your company information and perform tasks from a single place. This is a real time-saver for me.

QuickBooks Pro 2010 Immediately


I have been a fan of the Quickbooks series for quite some time. Back when Windows 95 was the alternative to DOS I used to fight my boss about the benefits of Quickbooks over say, Peachtree which used to be DOS only. Move ahead to now and I dont think I would recommend this package to anyone. The overall functionality is there. The thing that really chafes me is the way they dangle "add ons" that you must purchase. Why? Its because they know the average user does may not need payroll. Fine, then don't ship it with the software. Instead, make this addon an inexpensive purchase, NOT a subscription. That is highway robbery. Sticking it to the small business that may use this software is underhanded and petty.

Pros:

>> Low learning curve
>> Basics are plenty for most small businesses

Cons:
<< Subscription service to add payroll & more
<< Feel ripped off when using this software like they just want to dip into your pockets every time you use it.

Overall if you just need a basic accounting software for your business you may be better off looking somewhere else. This package is "very" basic and you will need to add a good deal more subscriptions or addons to get it to the level of some higher priced initially, but overall better software packages.

QuickBooks Pro 2010 Best Quality


I have been using this for almost a month now and am very satisfied. It installs and runs well on Windows 7. Until this version I have in the past been critical of Quickbooks because I felt it had poor reliability. Have had no problems with this version at all. With Microsoft dropping further development of Microsoft Accounting and if Intuit continues improving reliability it looks like Quickbooks is the way to go. My only complaints are that Intuit no longer offers discounts for people who are upgrading from a earlier version and that they want to charge you extra for payroll. I found this to be a very easy to use (and install) program that was well documented, especially with video tutorials. I haven't used this type of software before, but found it very easy to use for household budgeting and expense tracking, including writing out checks when I still need to do this. I do like the fact that it is so easy to move data in and out of Excel (basically cut and paste) and that you can click on existing data (e.f. totals) to easily get underlying data. QuickBooks Pro 2010 Buy Now


* The Install *

We tested out QB Pro 2010 by upgrading our 2009 Pro install and loading our company file.

The install took about 15 minutes and retained many of our settings from QB 2009. The installer did hang at the end hand had to be killed with task manager (Win XP).

* First Run *

After installing, we ran QB 2010 and it needed to download an update. This process took about 10 minutes, and then it needed to convert our company file to the new format. Not a big deal, but don't try to load a file from QB 2010 on previous versions--backwards compatibility is lost.

Actually running the program, we find some minor updates, as well as many familiar old annoyances. The toolbar is again littered with icons for Intuit products we're not interested in (we had cleaned this up when we installed 2009). The Intuit Community pops up, but you can disable it in preferences.

The interface is littered with Intuit products they want you to buy. For example, there is an item "Email Marketing" in three separate menus, Company, Customer, and Online Services. We tried this menu option and it complained that IE was not our default browser. (Duh, it's called security.)

* Summary *

QuickBooks Pro 2010 is a minor update (the new company snapshot is nice, the new products they're trying to sell you are not) feature-wise. The software works well enough to tolerate and everybody uses it. Accountants know it. This is why we use it. We wish there was another option for us as Intuit is not a customer-friendly company in our opinion. They try to hard to get you to pay for minor features that should be included. I must say that the Quickbooks software is truly great; HOWEVER Intuit is a major pain. First there is the constant selling of services in the software itself. It is just like all the free-ware that DELL puts on their computers. Secondly, they let you buy the software and come out with a new version 1 month later with no free upgrade and then to upgrade you need to spend another $150 or so (depending on where you get it). After all is said and done I paid twice (essentially) for the same piece of software.

I just lowered my review to 2 stars. The registration process is absolutely annoying. You need to talk to a person in India and validate ALL of the information that you typed in. Then after several minutes of waiting they give you a "validation" code.

I am wondering can Intuit make their great software any more annoying???

QuickBooks Pro 2010 Decide Now


Like many have said, 2010 is a fine program--a little faster than 2008 and much better all around from 2009 but still I am left wishing someone would write something that would give Intuit a real competitor to improve against. As it stands there is little else that does what Quickbooks does without it being painful like PeachTree or worse. The problem is that Intuit just seems to do "enough". Enough features to do the job but many that are extra to use. Enough quality to work most of the time, but still not as solid as it could be. They continue to force users to upgrade to new versions every 2 years, yet the software doesn't get much better.

As most people have said, they should make it say $50 more but include payroll and some of the other silly addons to make it truly useful for most small businesses. As it stands, you pay for this software, then payroll, then checks to use with this, etc. I think buyers need to understand the QB software cost is only part of what you actually pay Intuit.

Lowest Price QuickBooks Pro 2010


Quickbooks deserves a very positive review from me on their customer service of late. I have read a lot of reviews where people were not happy, and I have read about some likely deserved dissatisfaction with the performance of some of their updates. I've used Quickbooks for some time and recently upgraded from Quickbooks Pro 2007 to 2009. I was very pleased that it was quite stable and with a few new features, and as I recently learned how to add reports as icons on my Icon Bar (look under the Menu: View, you will see the option to add the report to the icon bar, a great feature, not new, but well worth mentioning) I have heard that version 2010, at least on the Windows side is another step in the right direction, focused on performance and stability. I suspect that getting version 2009 near the end of its development, this past September, that I benefitted from a year of updates helping it to be so stable for me. It actually fixed an old database error I was getting every time I backed up my company files in version 2007, made me very happy.

But why this "rave review" of their Customer service? Because they have been really great with me, and very fair. I had a few issues, made some mistakes (mistakes on my part) and did not know the procedure to set things right and my calls to Quickbooks about it were some of the best customer service calls I have had in a while. And this includes getting the information on how to get the new version of Quickbooks Pro 2010 as a CD/Box-and-shipping-only cost after purchasing version 2009 a month before the launch of version 2010. I got a great deal at Amazon for my 2009 copy (likely being so near the launch of 2010), and really, since I had to make a number of calls to Intuit over the past 2 months, representing more than one company and more than one issue, I must say that each call was very well handled.

I've used Windows since 1998, and moved to the Mac environment in 2005. I've continued to use Windows side-by-side with Mac's OSX because of a few programs that are essentially Windows only, and Quickbooks has been the main culprit for me. I know there is a Mac version, but without full back-and-forth compatibility, I can't mess with it. Co-workers of mine are still using Windows machines, so I am waiting patiently for Quickbooks Pro for Mac to offer seamless integration and stability working in tandem with the Windows Version. For those who wonder how it goes having a Mac, but still running Windows programs, right now I run Windows XP on Parallels on my 2009 Mac Pro 2.66 with a Xeon Quad Core, and let's just say that it is really fast. My mom also runs Quickbooks daily, and recently upgraded to a early 2009 iMac running at 2.66 ghz and can say I have never seen Windows boot up so fast as on her machine running under Parallels. I don't know why her install is faster than mine, but it is really fast. Maybe because my XP version was SP2, and her's SP3. I think it made a difference in the boot time, because otherwise, my Mac Pro is faster running Quickbooks as far as I can tell.

I am often the guy that family and friends call to get computer issues fixed, and I have been swamped with Windows computers failing lately in my immediate circles (both XP and VISTA based machines), and I'm hoping that Windows 7 will improve some of that. I installed it for my sister to solve a completely corrupted new (6 month old) VISTA install. Windows 7 certainly has improved the Windows environment, in ways that I was rather somewhat familiar with from my Mac, I don't know Windows 7 enough yet to say what it does better than a Mac, if anything, but it is clearly a big improvement from XP and VISTA. For those who wonder, I must say that I am much happier with my Mac experience than I ever was with Windows, because I prefer the general operating system environment by far, also the ease of correcting issues as a fix-it guy, and I much prefer the lack of complication installing programs on a Mac, etc. Over the past few years I have also had excellent customer service from Apple, and what they offer in their stores for service is fantastic, and unexpectedly I also recently got great customer service from Microsoft with some of these Windows questions I had as well, small difficulties getting Windows 7 to install, but I was quickly got help online and had great service! I mention all of this for people who are wondering how it works to have a Mac and still run Quickbooks, and for people who are wanting to build their confidence that there are other good choices than simply using Windows for everything just because we have to use it for a few things. I find sometimes you really get what you pay for, and my last big mistake was an underpowered Dell desktop I ordered for my mother, thinking I was saving her money and would still be happy with the performance. I was so wrong. Today I recommend HP and Toshiba, and I'm looking at Acer, but I think it is good for us to consider first our American based companies, even if most or all parts are made overseas.

So let me report that each of these "big" companies have been treating me pretty well lately. I think that the low grades of the past have prompted some changes, and I for one am very thankful.

I have a renewed hope that these large companies, on which we rely so heavily, are really taking their reputations seriously and addressing customer service issues. I give Intuit a lot of credit for really working to do a good job and be fair, and they surprised me, and treated me very, very well. Today, hats off to Intuit. And I know many people may read this who did not have a good experience... let us hope that such problems become the exception and not the rule. quickbooks 2010 has so many thing that do not work in it that a business has to be crazy to use it unless they do not transport it or use the loan manager. I use it with Windows 7 and maybe it works fine with other OS systems but not WINDOWS 7 64 bit pro. Go look at your "event viewer" and see for your self. You will notice many errors inregards to this program. To add insult to injury they want me to pay them to fix their problems. I checked out this program on 5 other computers (business that had bought their own copy and installed and thought the program was working right untill they looked at their reports and tried using many the program and all its funtions. I could not agree more with some of the customers' reviews here on Amazon: QB Pro on Windows 7 64-bit cannot be used for your business.

Our company upgraded our computers to Windows 7 64-bit along with Quickbooks 2010 to try it out, but have not transitioned the whole company over to QB 2010 because it just has so many things that don't work.

The most important issue that the fact that printing just doesn't work consistently, neither for pdf's (sending estimates, POs, reconciliation) nor simply printing invoices and receipts. If you try to follow suggestions posted on QB support discussion forums, the fix lasts about a day or so. After rebooting your computer or even QB again, the issue begins again. It's impossible to run a business with Quickbooks 2010 if one cannot print. For non-QB programs, printing works perfectly. So this is clearly a QB problem.

Due to the above, we've resorted to running the business with Quickbooks 2006 with off our older computers that have Windows XP 32-bit. Completely frustrating.

I'm not a person who likes to criticize products. I'm providing this review to simply warn users who have Windows 7 64-bit to really stay away from Quickbooks from 2010 until Intuit resolves the issue. It's really unfair that QB is asking us to pay for customer support when the issue is clearly because the product does not work.
